If we follow someone, is that because they are nice and try to be liked and accepted at all costs? Each of us needs acceptance, love, recognition, but if pleasing others becomes the basis of our sense of security, the basis of our self-esteem, it begins to manage us - and then we can become slaves of this situation.

We keep our distance, guard, shield, armor. Thus, we do not allow ourselves and the world to look inside us, because we fear misunderstanding, criticism, underestimation, as well as closeness, rejection, commitment - including emotional commitment. We may be avoiding responsibility or change - the reasons may vary. Maybe we do not know a different way of being, or it makes us feel safe. This is probably supposed to serve us, but at the same time it limits us. If we want to reduce our distance and stop protecting, we will have to find the strength to be our true self, instead of wasting energy not revealing who we are or what we truly need.

Expecting ourselves to be perfect can greatly weaken our impact on others, and thus the effectiveness of our leadership. Why? We are most effective in action and in communicating our opinion when we are authentic and internally integrated with our values. This is when we arouse curiosity and interest. This is how we attract others - both in leadership and in everyday life.

An ordinary organization differs from an extraordinary one in its organizational culture. Depending on it, people either really want to work for that organization or they don't; they become attached to the organization or look for the first possible train in the opposite direction.

A terrifying escalation of ideas, pace, action and reaction is taking place. We have an oversupply of change, shortness of breath and apnea. And chaos. Will we stay who we are? Or will the pressure of the world - changes and expectations, or the vision of rewards and of success - throw us off our path and out of our identity? Will we break our inner compass?
