Exit from the leader's cave
28/09/2021
We all stay in some areas of life in our caves, in other words, comfort zones that we are not going to leave. Perhaps we are trying, but we keep coming back to them, because they give us safety and sometimes apparent certainty. Transactional leadership is one of them.
For some of us, transactional leadership is comfortable, known, proven and has so far brought results and profit. My generation, generation X, started working in hierarchical organizations and stayed in them for most of their professional life. Some of us have not experienced a different culture of leadership in our professional lives and have become convinced that it is the only one that works. However, the world is changing too fast for staying in it to allow this state to be maintained in the years to come.
Staying in it means:
- Low retention, because young generations do not feel valuable in the hierarchy
- Loss of market position due to extended decision-making processes
- Low creativity and innovation
What will leaders face when taking up the challenge of stepping into transformational leadership? First of all, change of attitude, understanding of their new role in the organization, consent to the transformation of the behavior of the management and the staff so far presenting behaviors submissive to them, which is a very demanding process. They may be afraid of losing their position, reducing the distance between themselves and their subordinate employees, and most of all, they may fear failure, because transformation requires courage to embark on a journey into the unknown.
I am inviting you to my workshop titled Transformational Leadership - from Ego to Eco
