Trust
10/05/2021
Trust someone, believe, have no doubts - very difficult. Lean on someone, stand on someone else's shoulders, be sure that they will not leave you in the middle of nowhere - rare. Trust that you will never be lied to - extraordinary.
Each of us has a circle of people whom we trust and remember those moments in life when we were not able to manage our life alone. Or those twists and turns that we were not able to take without the faith of the other person. Moments when we had to trust strangers - a doctor, an expert in some field, a boss.
Without trust, the relationship is weak, the team - ineffective, work - uncertain, the company - weak. And the leader? The leader whom we do not trust will not be creadible and even slippery. So he will not be a leader.
Research convinces us that work engagament increases in direct proportion to trust in the boss and can even increase by several dozen percent if we trust him / her. This is a fact that no leader can ignore. So what builds trust in a leader? Trust in the boss consists of many factors, the description of which is definitely not necessary
- competences
- openness
- way of builing relations
- credibility
- reliability
- level of egocentrism
We know that trust building takes a long time and ot can be lost in the blink of an eye. All it takes is one lie, betrayal, stealing an idea, failure to keep a promise, indifference, false step, refusal to support, overlooking or disregarding that we are in need.
So where to start? Who goes first? Of course, the leader should show trust and confidence first. Trust that people are mature, creative, that they have good intentions. Show who he is, what is important to him, what he cares about, what he will need from employees, and not only what he will require from them (they certainly know this). Employees need support, attention, time and even care from their bosses. How do you find time for this while tasks and goals are piling up? Make it a priority. Employees trusting the boss will have the courage to express their opinion, submit new ideas, make their own decisions, and even admit failure, instead of sweeping it under the carpet. And the worst - without trust they will not be motivated to work and will NOT TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.
